Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park contains some of the most awe-inspiring camping in the world. The campground sits within an ancient old-growth redwood grove along the Smith River in Del Norte County, a forest so primeval that it regularly tops "best campground in America" lists.

The 86 sites range from forested to riverside, and the biggest, most ancient trees are right next to the loop roads. The park is remote by California standards, four hours north of San Francisco, but that doesn't stop summer weekends from filling months in advance.
