Half of Malibu Creek's sites go to lottery. The rest are open to anyone who catches one. Dibs on Dirt watches 42 ReserveCalifornia spots.
Get Alerts FreeMalibu Creek State Park sits in the Santa Monica Mountains, 25 miles from Hollywood, the same landscapes used for the M*A*S*H television series. It's the most accessible "real" camping for the entire Los Angeles basin, and demand far outstrips supply.
The campground has 62 sites total: 20 are allocated by annual lottery, leaving 42 on ReserveCalifornia. Those 42 fill on release day and stay booked for months.
Cancellations do come back into the pool at 8 a.m. Dibs on Dirt monitors them continuously.
