Malibu Creek State Park sits in the Santa Monica Mountains, 25 miles from Hollywood, the same landscapes used for the M*A*S*H television series. It's the most accessible "real" camping for the entire Los Angeles basin, and demand far outstrips supply.
The campground has 62 sites total: 20 are allocated by annual lottery, leaving 42 on ReserveCalifornia. Those 42 fill on release day and stay booked for months.
Cancellations do come back into the pool at 8 a.m. Dibs on Dirt monitors them continuously.
